Gas Turbine Test Rig Design

Image showing the completed test rigIn Partnership with over 50 other European Companies Assystem has assisted in the design of a test rig which is to be used to develop low noise strategies for aircraft engines. The project, known as Silence R, aims is to reduce aircraft noise by 6 decibels by 2010 and to halve it by 2020. The test rig is a third of the size of a production aircraft engine and it is much cheaper to build and operate, saving manufacturers many thousands of dollars as they seek to reduce civil aircraft noise.

Image showing the design of the test rig in SolidworksAssystem used SolidWorks® 3D mechanical design software to streamline the rig development and reduce errors. SolidWorks allowed Assystem to create rapid custom designs and to interface concurrently with the manufacturing supply chain. Engineers use SolidWorks' physical simulation capabilities to identify and fix part collisions before manufacture begins and SolidWorks Routing enables engineers to accurately design the correct connections for more than 2,000 instrumentation tubes & wires throughout the test rig.
